Adtoi Organises Interactive Session On Service Tax With Sr.
Officials Of Customs, Central Excise & Service Tax

Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India (ADTOI) organised an
inter-active session on Service Tax for the benefit of its members with the
Sr. officials of Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax Officials in their
General House Meeting on 20th April 2005 at Ashok Hotel.
Mrs. Nisha Malhotra, Chief Commissioner and Mr. Bipin Sapra, Joint
Commissioner, Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax participated in the
Session. The session was arranged by ADTOI with a view to understand the
implications and applicability of the provisions of Service Tax rules
related to Travel & Tourism Industry. Since the issue was common to
Travel Trade fraternity, members from other Travel Trade Association like
TAAI, TAFI, IATO, ATOAI were also invited to participate. The session was
attended by large audience from all sections that were keen to interact with
the Service Tax officials.
Welcoming Mrs. Nisha Malhotra, Chief Commissioner and Mr. Bipin Sapra, Joint
Commissioner, Mr. Mukesh Jagga, President, ADTOI, thanked the Hon'ble guests
for sparing their valuable time to participate in the Session for the
benefit Travel Trade Fraternity. The session was moderated by Mr. Sanjay
Saxena, General Secretary and Mr. Rajiv Varma, member, ADTOI who had
provided to all participants with a list of points for discussions in the
meeting. Members addressed their questions on the applicability of service
tax to service providers of Travel Trade Fraternity for clarifications. The
Chief Commissioner and Joint commissioner after hearing the members provided
the requisite interpretations to the issues raised. Though the session was
quite meaningful and purposeful the Travel Fraternity present at the meeting
requested the Chief Commissioner to further enlighten them by organising
half day/full day work shop on Service Tax within the next one or two weeks.
Appreciating the concern of the members the Chief Commissioner thanked the
President, ADTOI for arranging such a session for the benefit of service
providers and assured that the Department would look into the matter and
extend their support in organising a workshop for the benefit of members in
the near future.
Earlier Mr.Vijay K. Saluja, Advisor, TAFCON made an impressive audio-visual
presentation for the benefit of members present on adventure tourism on the
occasion of forthcoming Mountaineering & Tourism Meet 2005 being
organised by Himalayan Environment Trust at Mussoorie from 26th to 28th May
2005.
