Adtoi Delegation on
Promotional Tour to Madhya Pradesh
{ 9th to 11th July 2004
}
After the successful promotional tour of
Kashmir in April this year, ADTOI delegation comprising of Executive Council
members undertook a similar tour of Madhya Pradesh visiting Bhopal,
Indore, Sanchi and Ujjain, from 9th to 11th July 2004 to meet the local tour
operators and State Tourism Officials to assist in their efforts to promote
destinations in Madhya Pradesh. The delegation was led by Mr. Jyoti Kapur,
President of ADTOI. ADTOI had unleashed a drive to achieve and accomplish,
UNIFIED DOMESTIC TOURISM - AS A REALITY, covering length and breath of
INCREDIBLE INDIA.
At Bhopal the meeting took place at Noor us
Sabah Palace, a WelcomHeritage property on 9th July. The meeting was
attended by Mr. Ashwani Lohani, Managing Director, and Mr. G.S. Chail,
General Manager, Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation Ltd.
and Bhopal Tour Operators. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Jyoti Kapur. He
welcomed all the Bhopal tour operators and thanked them for their positive
response to ADTOI's call to meet and discuss modalities to promote tourism
in the State. He also invited them to join ADTOI, National Body of Domestic
Tour Operators, a forum committed to promote regional tourism and strengthen
national integration, and march ahead in tandem with State Tourism
Authorities, Railways and Domestic Airlines, to boost up domestic tourism by
15% - 20% in the year 2004. Bhopal tour operators were highly appreciative
of the delegation's visit and were very positive in their approach to join
ADTOI.
Mr. Kapur welcomed Mr. Ashwani Lohani, MD, MPSTDC and
thanked Mr. Lohani for his participation in the meeting and requested him to
enlighten the audience about the promotional activities being undertaken by
MPSTDC.
Mr. Lohani thanked the delegation for taking initiative to
visit MP on a mission to promote tourism. In his speech he explained the
tourism potential of the State and the steps being taken to promote the same
within and outside the country. He also mentioned about the efforts being
made by the State Govt. in providing necessary infrastructure, improving
road conditions at tourist destinations, intensifying ad campaign etc.
The
delegation visited Bhimbetaka, Bhojpur Temple and Sanchi during their stay
at Bhopal. Mr. J.S. Walia of Frequent Travels & Cargo Pvt. Ltd. Indore,
an active member of ADTOI and Bh. Raghavendra Singh Amla, of AMLA FORT,
Heritage property, joined the delegation at Bhopal.
On 10th the
delegation left for Indore and had a similar meeting with Indore tour
operators at Fortune Landmark Indore another WelcomHeritage property. Tour
Operators from Indore who participated in the meeting were delighted at the
delegation's visit to the State and the city in particular with a special
mission to promote various destinations in the State. They too were very
keen to associate themselves with ADTOI and work together to achieve common
goals.
On 11th morning the delegation left for Ujjain and visited
temples. The collector of Ujjain Mr. Vivek Aggarwal had arranged a luncheon
meeting with ADTOI delegation at MPSTDC Kshipra Hotel. He was very happy to
receive the delegation at Ujjain which is a famous pilgrim town. He
requested the visiting delegation to promote Ujjain by keeping it as base
for other destinations. He also explained the mythological importance of the
city. The delegation assured him of their full support in promoting Ujjain
among the pilgrim and other tourists. The delegation returned to Delhi by
Jet Airways flight on 11th July.

The tour was very
successful. Similar visits shall be undertaken to different parts of the
country to promote regional tourism and strengthen national integration of
INCREDIBLE INDIA, with focus on rural tourism, heritage tourism and pilgrim
tourism.
